DJ Mag Top 100 poll results leaked

This one's been going around the internet forums lately: if you go to DJ Mag's web site and search the names of DJ's, you'll find their position listed on 2010's Top 100 poll. The official results won't be announced until Wednesday the 27th, but it looks as if the magazine is doing some early preparation to prepare their site for the unveiling.

Here's a search I did for "David Guetta", and the following popped up (click to enlarge):

Although the DJ Mag Top 100 poll is essentially a popularity contest, it does have an impact on the bookings side of the dance music industry, as names on this list will be easier sells to promoters around the world.

So yeah...about that VMA performance

What I thought would be an actual 2-3 minute performance by deadmau5 last night at the VMA's was nothing more than a couple 20 second spurts of music for the show before and after commercial breaks. He played some of his popular tracks like "Some Chords" and "Moar Ghosts N' Stuff", but for the most part, he was just someone there in person filling a role that is normally done behind the scenes.

While his "performance" didn't help the image of dance music in the United States as much as I hoped it would, it actually made me appreciate deadmau5 even more. Compared to the lip-synched performances by guys like Usher and Justin Beiber, deadmau5's music wasn't annoying, and it wasn't shoved in your face either. And his LED mau5head and cube were visual eye-candy.

The next chance for a DJ to play to millions of Americans on national television will be New Year's Eve. Last year David Guetta filled that spot.

deadmau5 at the VMA's

Deadmau5 will be performing at the MTV VMA's tonight alongside some of America's biggest mainstream artists: Lady Gaga, Eminem, Justin Beiber, and Linkin Park.

Since the show is only two hours long, he probably won't get more than 2-3 minutes to play, but I'm curious about what song he will pick for his "set". Outside of David Guetta performing with the Black Eyed Peas on New Year's Eve 2009, I can't think of a DJ getting TV time at an event this big in recent memory.

deadmau5 hospitalized, upcoming shows canceled

Taken from his Facebook fan page:

[deadmau5 management]

Last night, whilst performing onstage at the 9:30 club in Washington DC, deadmau5 collapsed, suffering exhaustion and vomiting. Medics at the venue took him directly to hospital where he is now under supervision

deadmau5 is sad to advise his fans that on the strict advice of the doctors, he now has no choice but to cancel the next 9 shows of his Summer tour schedule to allow for his recovery. The dates affected are listed below.

Deadmau5 hopes to reschedule appearing in these cities in due course but in the meantime thanks all his fans for their understanding and support.

Dates that have to be CANCELLED:

August 1st Osheaga Music & Arts Festival, Montreal Canada
August 7th Summersonic Osaka Japan
August 8th Summersonic Tokyo Japan
August 12th Cream at Amnesia Ibiza
August 13th Cocorico Riccione Italy
August 14th Papaya Summer Festival Croatia
August 15th Sziget Festival Budapest Hungary
August 17th Cavo Paradiso Mykonos Greece
August 18th Opium Mar Barcelona Spain

Considering deadmau5's rigorous touring schedule where he's been bouncing from country to country playing shows 24/7/365, its finally caught up to him. This could happen to any DJ though with that kind of lifestyle.

Best of luck to his recovery.

This week:

- Friday: Jason Jollins at Pacha

Olympic5

At 10:30 p.m. EST tonight, deadmau5 will be playing a concert at the one of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics medal ceremonies at Whistler mountain in British Columbia.

Of course they're not going to show his set in its entirety on TV, but if you plan on watching the Olympics anyway, this is a fun thing to look out for that might find its way onto a highlight reel of the day's events.

Track from deadmau5's next album?

While browsing TranceAddict today, I noticed that a user posted up a link to an unreleased deadmau5 song - "October".

In the past, deadmau5 has released tracks long before they appear on his Ultra Records albums (such as Random Album Title and For Lack Of A Better Name).

I hope this one finds its way onto his next album, which rumors point to coming out around summertime. This version seems to be a spliced live recording, but it's quality stuff.

Deadmau5's NYE show intro mishap

Apparently Joel was going with the "from the rafters" entrance similar to a professional wrestling show or something.

Too bad it didn't go as planned (skip to around 2:09 for the funny stuff):
